Pulwama, Sep 14: Saboora Arshid, daughter of Arshid Ahmad Bhat, a 23-year-old from Ahrihal Pulwama, tragically passed away on Saturday evening due to alleged medical negligence at a private hospital.

Her family shared that they arrived at Mohammadiya Private Nursing Home at 11 AM to complete the formalities for Saboora’s nose surgery. She was taken into the operation theatre at 3 PM. However, by 5 PM, the family was still waiting for updates and were later shocked to learn that Saboora had been transferred to Government Hospital without their knowledge.

One of Saboora’s relatives claimed she lost consciousness after allegedly being given an overdose of anesthesia. The family had initially chosen the private hospital on the recommendation of an ENT surgeon, who had offered them other options but they chose this one due to its proximity. They were told the surgery would cost Rs 50,000, with Rs 35,000 paid in advance.

In response to the incident, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Dr. Basharat Qayoom(IAS) ordered an official inquiry to investigate the circumstances of her demise.

Pending the outcome of this inquiry, the Tehsildar (Executive Magistrate) of Pulwama, in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and the SHO of Pulwama, have been directed to seal the operation theatre of Mohammdiya Nursing Home effective immediately. This measure is taken to ensure the preservation of evidence and records related to the case.

The process will be conducted in accordance with standard operating procedures and the entire procedure will be videographed for transparency and documentation purposes.
