400,000 pilgrims complete Amarnath pilgrimage in 2026
Srinagar, 28 July: As the number of pilgrims during the ongoing Amarnath Yatra 2026 has crossed the 400,000-mark, at least 39 pilgrims received injuries in a road accident in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, the officials said.
According to the officials, “more than four-lakh pilgrims” have completed the pilgrimage this year despite six-day long suspension due to inclement weather from 20 to 25 July.
“Till now, 4.14 Lakh pilgrims have visited the cave this year,” an official told The News Herald.
Meanwhile, at least 39 Amarnath pilgrims were injured, two of them critically, in a road accident in Central Kashmir’s Gund Ganderbal area.
Health officials said that all the injured pilgrims have been shifted to hospitals for timely treatment.
The accident took place when a bus carrying pilgrims lost control over the wheels, resulting in it plunging into a gorge.
Eyewitnesses said that locals rushed to the spot to rescue the injured pilgrims.
The bus bearing registration number AR11 D5655 lost control near Hariganiwan, Ganderbal.
Doctors said that all 39 pilgrims, who sustained injuries in the accident, are now in “stable condition”.
Investigations have been launched to ascertain the cause behind the mishap.
