Srinagar:13 July: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s J&K unit on Monday served a legal notice to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after his sensational claim that one of his legislators from Jammu was offered to switch sides in exchange of monetary benefits.
Omar Abdullah had claimed that the BJP had attempted to offer kickbacks to the JKNC. According to Omar Abdullah, a Supreme Court lawyer ideologically linked to the saffron party had offered cash to the tune of 20-30 crore and also ministerial berths in an attempt to overthrow the Omar Abdullah-led government.
Responding to Omar Abdullah’s series of allegations, the BJP described these as “false, baseless and defamatory”.
The BJP sent out a legal notice to Omar Abdullah, demanding a written retraction, an unconditional public apology within seven days. It warned civil and criminal proceedings would follow if the demands of the BJP are not met.
The BJP issued its legal notice through advocate Parimoksh Seth on the directions of BJP’s J&K president, Sat Paul Sharma.
According to the BJP, Omar Abdullah’s statements have tarnished the reputation of the BJP and its office-bearers.
Earlier, on 11 July, the J&K Chief Minister had claimed the BJP was trying to topple his government by engineering a split in his party.
