Road Mishaps Continue to Consume Lives in the Chenab Valley
Five persons have lost their lives in a deadly road accident after a vehicle they were travelling in plunged into the Chenab River, officials said Saturday.
According to details, a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle in Kishtwar skidded off the road in Kishtwar’s Yainwan area. The driver of the vehicle reportedly lost control over the wheels and the vehicle plunged into the Chenab River.
Eyewitnesses said that Scorpio vehicle, bearing registration number HR29AG-0648, was travelling from Dangdaroo toward Sounder when the mishap occurred at Yainwan, Dangdaroo, early Saturday morning at around 10:45 am.
The vehicle rolled down into the Chenab River, officials said.
A rescue team from a nearby police station, with the help of local volunteers, reached the spot and made efforts to locate and recover those travelling in the vehicle.
According to officials, at least five bodies have been recovered from the accident site thus far.
The identity of the deceased hasn’t been revealed yet.
