New Delhi, 06, Dec: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday, addressing the Lok Sabha on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 as well as the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, alleged that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru made “two blunders” due to which Kashmir residents suffered for years, following which the Opposition members walked out of the House, in protest.
Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, following a discussion on the Bills which began on Tuesday.
Here’s what Amit Shah said in the Lok Sabha:
1-During a debate on the two Bills, Amit Shah said, “Jammu and Kashmir has suffered due to two blunders committed by Prime Minister Nehru – first, by announcing ceasefire and then, taking Kashmir issue to the United Nations.”
2-He also blamed the former PM for losing Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to the neighbouring nation. “Had Jawaharlal Nehru taken right steps, PoK would have been part of India now. It was historic blunder,” he said.
3-Underlining that Kashmiri Pandits had suffered due to terror activities in the valley, and fled to other states, Shah asserted, “Had terrorism been tackled in the beginning without considering vote-bank politics, Kashmiri Pandits would not have had to leave the valley.”
4-Shah defended the two J&K Bills stating that they “will give justice to those deprived of their rights for last 70 years.”
5-He then affirmed that “the Bills seek to give representation in the Assembly to those who had to leave Kashmir due to terrorism.”
6-Elaborating on the provisions for Kashmiris in the Bills, Shah underlined: “One seat in Jammu and Kashmir assembly will be reserved for people displaced from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.”
7-“One of the two bills on Jammu and Kashmir seeks to nominate two Kashmiri Migrant community members, including a woman, to the Assembly,” the Union Minister added.
8-Targeting the Opposition for causing “harm” to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Shah alleged, “Congress has done greatest harm to Other Backward Classes (OBCs)… PM Narendra Modi has been working relentlessly for welfare of backward classes.”
9- Amit Shah presented that about 45,000 people have lost their lives due to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir so far. “Our focus is to end terror ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir… Plan to have zero terror incident in Jammu and Kashmir in force for three years, which will be successful by 2026.”
10- He also highlighted that the Narendra Modi government has planned to end terrorism in the valley by 2026. “Modi government will return to power in 2024, and by 2026, I hope there will be no terror incident in Jammu and Kashmir.”
