Proponent of self rule, dual currency can’t be Congress president

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee Tariq Karra is facing heat from his party workers and senior leaders for leading the party towards defeat in the assembly elections in Jammu region.

Many Congress leaders and workers said that Karra before joining the Congress has been a proponent of self rule, dual currency which are against the national interests.

“Tariq Hamid Karra decived number of political parties during his career. He was holding the agenda of the Hurriyat Conference, dual currency, self rule and plebiscite, etc. All are against the national interests of this country,” said Congress leaders.

“We couldn’t understand how a national party, especially Indian National Congress leadership, appointed him interim PCC President JK UT. The leadership should have checked his past credentials in PDP when he promoted Hurriyat Conference agenda which is against the national interest,” he said.

The leaders said the Pradesh office bearers demand AICC constitute a committee for probing the defeat in Assembly election, misappropriation of fund disbursed to JK PCC for the elections and selling of mandates during the assembly election.

Hailing the role of former PCC president Vikar Rasool, they said that when Congress faced a tumultuous situation after resignation of Ghulam Nabi Azad who took away 20 leaders from the party, Vikar Rasool Wani, CWC Member, Ex PCC President JK and Ex minister, stood before this storm.

“Vikar Rasool didn’t lose enthusiasm but succeeded in regaining the momentum and strengthened the party brick by brick and brought back leaders and workers. Many people thought that Congress office would bolted after Azad flaoted his party, but he promoted Congress party cadre from booth to working president of JKPCC.

“In the Parliament election of 2024, we took lead in assembly constituencies Jammu province, but shockingly, we won only one seat with the support of the National Conference in Rajouri under the president interim arrangement,” they said.

“We Pradesh leadership of JK are in confusion why AICC changed President Vikar Rasool on the same day when notification was published by election commission for 2024 Assembly elections. His role must have been continued for strengthening the party,” they said.

“The results are questionable, who is responsible, who has manoeuvred, and who were organizers of assembly election of 2024? The pre poll alliance was well versed entanglement for self interests of Pradesh Election organizers, and it amplified in the devastating results in election,” they said.
