Without mentioning Articles 370 and 35A and separate flag and constitution, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Friday said the special constitutional status accorded to the region reflected its “unique relationship with the Union of India.”
Officially, the JKNC has maintained that “the ones who snatched Article 370 from us will not give it back to us.” The party organised a sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in July to demand the return of statehood, but remained silent on 370 and 35A.
In a statement, the JKNC said that Farooq Abdullah addressed a gathering in which the veteran politician and former Chief Minister said his party would continue its struggle for the restoration of constitutional guarantees.
He said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir had the right to raise their voice for the restoration of their constitutional rights.
He reiterated that the party would “never retreat from its position and would continue its political and constitutional struggle.”
Farooq Abdullah, as per the statement, said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were facing numerous issues and difficulties and that the present circumstances required an elected government with a strong mandate.
“Out political institutions must respect the aspirations of the people and that their voices should be heard,” the statement said quoting Farooq Abdullah.
