Srinagar, 2 August: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference [JKNC] president Farooq Abdullah on 1 August voiced concern and condemned “the targeted killing of two non-local labourers in Keelam, Kulgam” in South Kashmir.
Farooq Abdullah demanded “a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation to identify and punish the perpetrators of crime.”
Addressing the media during his visit to Tangmarg, the senior Abdullah said the incident in Kulgam was tragic and deeply disturbing. He argued such acts were aimed at vitiating the tranquil atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The killing of labourers is unfortunate. We do not know who is behind these attacks or who seeks to destabilise the situation. There must be an impartial, transparent and credible investigation to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” Farooq Abdullah said.
He also questioned the timing of such incidents, arguing, “It is difficult to ignore that whenever the demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood gains momentum, such disturbing incidents occur. Why does this repeatedly happen? The people deserve credible answers.”
