JKNC MLAs offered 20-30 crore to switch sides, claims Omar Abdullah
Share

Srinagar: 11 July: In a startling revelation, Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister and Vice-president of the ruling National Conference, Omar Abdullah, said the attempts were being made to overthrow the government led by the JKNC.

Omar Abdullah said on 11 July, Saturday, that offers to switch sides have been made to one of his legislators, luring him with 20-30 crore, to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

On the occasion of the 26th death anniversary of Begum Akbar Jehan, Omar Abdullah’s grandmother, the Chief Minister said a Supreme Court lawyer, ideologically wedded to the BJP, made the offer to a Jammu-based MLA. He said some of the MLAs were even offered ministerial berths.

“Our MLA rejected the offer made, saying that the JKNC legislators cannot be bought. Our government cannot be toppled with monetary inducements,” the Chief Minister said.

Abdul Majeed Larmi, another legislator from the West Anantnag Assembly Constituency, disclosed that he too was approached multiple times by the BJP to defect from the JKNC.

He said this while participating in the 11 July rally to Commemorate the death anniversary of Begum Akbar Jehan.

“I have been approached by them (BJP) four times. We will give you everything you demand and was also informed that nearly 20 MLAs are with us,” the legislator said.

BJP’s Sunil Sharma, MLA and Leader of the Opposition, J&K, had been claiming that the JKNC would split anytime and some of its MLAs were in constant touch with the saffron party. He hinted at the possibility of forming government with ‘rebel’ JKNC legislators.
