Srinagar: 24 July: Ruling out any floods in the Kashmir valley due to rising water level in the river Jhelum, Indian Meteorological Department said the rainfall intensity has deceased and water level in water bodies will gradually decline.
Director IMD Srinagar Centre, Mukhtar Ahmad said that there is no alarming situation of floods.
He said the water level in the river Jhelum will gradually decrease as rainfall has stopped in Srinagar and center Kashmir parts even as a brief spell of rainfall was recorded in South Kashmir.
The director said that weather will remain cloudy till 28th July. “From 28 July onwards there are chances of moderate to heavy spells of rainfall in Jammu Division and Chenab Valley.
He said the weather will improve from today afternoon even after light to moderate spell of rain was recorded in South Kashmir from today morning as per the forecast.
Jammu and Kashmir have recorded incessant rainfall from Juky 19 which has disrupted traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other highways, shutdding down schools and disrupting normal life.
More than 20 people have died in flashfloods and shooting stones, while seven are missing in Poonch.
The IMD Director said that Jammu and Kashmir is under the grip of ongoing active moonsoon due to which the precipitation level has increased after weeks of dry spell.
