Starc, Shoriful & Green Shine
Australia squared the two-match Test series, 1-1, against visiting Bangladesh by winning the second and last match in Mackay by an innings and 51 runs.
Left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc won player of the match award for taking six in the first and four more wickets in the second innings.
“As Bangladesh test team, we didn’t play to our best in the second test,” said Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hasan Shanto at the presentation ceremony.
Bangladesh were all out for paltry 95 runs in the second innings after trailing Australia by 146 runs. The visitors were all out for 64 runs in their first innings.
Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 29*.
“We needed to bounce back. A lot of things went right in this test match,” said Australian captain Pat Cummins.
For Australia, Cameron Green was the top scorer with 67 in the second test match in Mackay. He scored a century in the first test match in Darwin.
Bangladesh left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam took seven wickets.
Australia batted only once in Mackay and posted 210 runs on the board, taking a lead of 146 runs.
In the first test Bangladesh had posted 426 runs in response to Australia’s 198, taking a lead of 228 runs. In the second innings, Australia folded out for 284, leaving Bangladesh an easy target of 57 runs.
Bangladesh won the first test match by nine wickets. It was Bangladesh’s first-ever victory on Australian soil in red ball cricket.
Tanzid Hasan made a century for Bangladesh while Green also made a century for Australia in the same test.
