Australia Rely on Green & Carey Partnership in Darwin Test
As Bangladesh secured a decisive 228-run lead on day three of the ongoing Test in Darwin, Australia batters Cameron Green and Alex Carey steadied the team’s sinking ship after losing Weatherald, Head, Labuschagne and Smith early in the piece.
At stumps on day three, Australia were 161-4, trailing by 67 runs.
Earlier, Bangladesh ended their first innings on 426, thanks to a century by Tanzid and fifties from skipper Shanto and all-rounder Mehidy. Australia had been dismissed for 198 in their first innings.
For Australia, Hazlewood took six wickets. Hasan Mahmud also claimed a 6-fer for Bangladesh.
Australia would first look to stabilise the innings on day four and take a lead of at least 150 runs to challenge Bangladesh in their last innings.
After being 351-6 at the end of day two of the first test of the two-match series against Australia, Bangladesh ended their innings at 426 all out in 138 overs.
Mehidy Miraz made 65. Bangladesh batters pulverised the Australian bowlers in Darwin and dominated five sessions on the trot.
Opening batter Tanzid, playing only his second test in his international career, scored a magnificent century [101] and forged a 93-run partnership with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.
Meanwhile, Australia are 161-4 at the end of day three; Green unbeaten on 43*.
