Srinagar: 15 July: Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, the J&K National Conference’s parliamentarian from Central Kashmir, Srinagar, upped his ante on Wednesday against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing Abdullah of “running the BJP’s agenda” by reducing the political demand to the restoration of statehood alone.
Speaking to reporters, Aga Mehdi argued that the region’s current ruler [Omar Abdullah] went before the voters, pleading them to elect him so that he can restore the region’s lost identity, respect, special status and statehood. After assuming power, Mehdi alleged that Omar Abdullah has forgotten his commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“He made me to plead before you. You elected him. He promised to bring back our lost identity, special status. And he’d brand anyone talking about statehood as BJP’s agent. Now, who’s the BJP’s agent and who’s running the saffron party’s agenda?” Mehdi asked.
The parliamentarian added that Omar Abdullah wants statehood so that the police officers and bureaucrats listen to him and salute him.
“He is not bothered about what happens to our land, religion and identity,” Mehdi alleged.
