Port of Spain, 2 August: West Indies lost southpaw opening batter Tagenarine Chanderpaul for 15 runs, with team score 49-1, when rain stopped play on day one of the second Test match against visitors, Pakistan.
West Indies Test skipper Roston Chase on Sunday won the toss and elected to bat first in the second and last match of the series against Pakistan.
Hosts are 1-0 up in the series and would like to whitewash the visitors while Pakistan would want to level the two-match test series 1-1.
Surprisingly, Pakistan made four changes to the playing XI, leaving out their in-form seamer Mohammad Abbas, who claimed eight wickets in the first test including a 5-fer, and Khurram Shahzad, another pacer. Aamir Jamal was left out while Shan Masood’s ouster was due to his fractured finger.
In the absence of Shan Masood and Abdullah Fazal, both out due to injuries, Pakistan recalled Abdullah Shafique and debutant Awais Zafar.
Spinner Sajid Khan is also in the playing XI.
It seems Pakistan have strengthened their batting, playing Abdullah Shafique and Awais Zafar. Saud Shakeel wasn’t picked.
Meanwhile, the rain and wet field delayed the toss and start of the match.
West Indies started their innings well, but Pakistan captain didn’t have a third slip for debutant Ubaid Shah, which meant that both opening batters, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Brandon King, edged the ball in the vacant third slips area.
Thankfully, Mohammad Ali bowled a bouncer to Chanderpaul who fell after making 15, caught by Sajid Khan in the deep.
The match stopped due to rain in the 10th over.
