Tarouba, 27 July: At stumps on day two of the first Test of the two-match series, Pakistan’s former skipper and top order batter Shan Masood remained unbeaten on 88* runs to help his team reach a respectable score of 199-3 in response to West Indies’ total of 311 runs in the first innings in Tarouba.
Pakistan trail by 112 runs with seven wickets in hand.
Opening batter Imam-ul-Haq also scored solid 63 runs, laced with seven fours.
Shan and Imam forged a solid 155-run partnership after another opening batter, Azan Awais, fell without troubling the scorers.
After being 1-1, Pakistan reached 156-2. After the fall of Imam, skipper Babar Azam contributed 23 runs, three fours, before losing his wicket to a beauty bowled by Jayden Seales.
Shan scored his fifty at a brisk rate and slowed down after Tea on day two. He hit 11 boundaries.
For hosts, Jayden Seales, Kemar Roach and Shamar Joseph took a wicket, each.
Earlier, Pakistan pacer Mohammad Ali took four wickets while conceding only 50 runs. Veteran seamer Mohammad Abbas claimed three wickets.
For West Indies, Shai Hope made 92 and Kavem Hodge 84.
On day two, Pakistan bowlers bowled exceptionally well to restrict hosts, West Indies, to 311.
On day one, West Indies had posted 194 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets against Pakistan in Tarouba, with Kavem Hodge unbeaten on 83*. On day two, Pakistan bowlers didn’t allow West Indies to score too many runs.
West Indies test skipper Roston Chase had won the toss and elected to bat first.
Opening batters Brandon King and Tagenarine Chanderpaul fell cheaply, scoring 12 and 21 respectively.
Amir Jangoo made 21 and fell to Mohammad Abbas.
Led by Babar Azam, Pakistan would like to dominate West Indies.
On day one of the first test, only 67 overs could be bowled due to interruptions caused by bad weather.
On day two, 79.5 overs were bowled.
